MI SEGUNDA ENTREVISTA CON SWAMI EN FORMA SUTIL

Sai Maa, Maa and Me!-My second

interview with Swami (In Subtle Form)
After my first interview with the Lord along with my band at Muddenahalli, HE inspired me to start looking within and not seek HIM externally. They say the biggest miracle of Bhagawan is HIS power to transform human hearts. A deep introspection, I felt, was necessary if I was to meet my Lord again. I should confess that there was a conscious effort to change my behavior with people in general. Being a really short tempered person, I realized that there was spiritual metamorphosis that was happening within me, without my knowledge. And I guess that's what happens when we surrender ourselves to HIM completely. I tried to see things from a different perspective – only positively. I started seeing beauty in everything around me which helped me feel swami stronger around me, protecting me at every step.I could visualize HIM sitting on an empty chair, and with more such practice, I could feel HIS presence whenever I saw an empty chair. With each passing day, my longing for HIS love only grew.
It was the month of February,I was all prepared to go abroad for HIS work – for conducting bhajan camp. Meanwhile, I had prayed to Swami if HE could bless my mother with a personal interview as she was still in confusion as what was happening. After sharing my experience, my mother was very happy and her faith only grew multi-fold. But she wanted HIM to call her. It was almost time for me to leave for Abroad and I prayed to Swami for HIS blessings before I leave. When informed swami about it, HE asked me how long I was planning to be abroad. I told HIM that I will be gone for a month almost, to which he replied "Very Happy…Serve selflessly." He continued, "Don't fall for a girl there. Do service and come back". HE did not spare a chance to pull my legs! We had a hearty laugh!
Probably, this is one of the most adorable aspects of Swami. He can be a Loving Mother, a moment later a strict father, or a strong brother and then be your best friend. Or at times, all of these together! My joy knew no bounds when HE later said "I will see you and mother as soon as you are back!" Well, what more could I ask for! Lo, the Lord seems to be in the giving and forgiving mode. I knew for sure that He was responding to my mother's prayers! I got reminded of HIS words"You take one step towards me and i will take 100 steps towards you".
Now that I have my Lord's word, I decided to embark on my Abroad visit for conducting the bhajan camp. As usual, Swami ran the show from end to end. Probably till then it would have been a mere lip service when I say HE would take care, but it was abroad visit that I realized that if we surrender to HIM completely and have that total faith that HE would take care, HE would indeed take care of it all. There were several hiccups when few people tried to stop this work, tried their best to intervene – but our dearest Lord had other plans in mind. He took care of each and every aspect of this bhajan camp.
And it was time for me to return. I was super excited knowing that there was a Divine Audience waiting for me and my mother. As soon as I landed in Bangalore, I tried to 'remind' HIM!! Swami was gracious enough to call us the following Thursday. I was all the more excited by now, for, I love Thursdays a lot since most of my interactions with Bhagawan physically as well in subtle form happened on Thursdays! So too my first interview with HIM! A sheer Sai-incidence!!
My mother was most thrilled to know that her prayers were finally answered. We reached Muddenahalli by 2 pm. My uncle too joined us with a sincere prayer that he too be called by Bhagawan. We got confirmation to wait for the Divine Call. By 4 pm, we were up at Swami's Hilltop Residence – Sathya Sai Anandam. I got a Dejavu – I remember being in similar situation just weeks ago, when HE had blessed our band with an interview. I knew it was a test of our patience and prayer as well. Finally, the Divine Call came in half hour. This was the moment I was waiting for.
We went upstairs, had to pass through HIS bedroom to get into Interview room. I indicated my mother to go first as Madhu brother opened the door for us. He asked us to sit down right in front of Swami's chair. Even before I could close the door from inside, Bhagawan pulled my leg "Your mother has come, has your wife not come?" I couldn't control my laughter. You see, that's one of the best thing about Bhagawan – HE would crack a joke, pull a leg when we least expect HIM to! But the all-knowing Bhagawan asked my mother as if HE did not know "Do you understand Telugu?" to which my mother replied in the negative. Swami then remarked "Oh Kannada", and then came the Divine command "You translate to your mother". I was amused at my own condition – I have to listen to Swami's chaste Telugu and translate it into Kannada for my mother!! As if Swami doesn't speak Kannada. Anyways, I was sure that I will mess it up as they call "Lost in Translation"!!
Madhu brother then described how Bhagawan was seated right in front of us in a bright orange robe. I closed my eyes and tried to visualize the beautiful Lord seated in front of us. He said he would repeat as Bhagawan speaks.
The very first words of HIS took my mother by surprise. Swami said "Addanga puttay pillavad manaskuda addangane untundi"
I was lost!! How do I translate that?? What does that even mean!! That moment I realized the value or learning Telugu. Even as I looked at Madhu brother blankly and indicated my miserable state, he translated Swami's words in nice Kannada. Anyway he explained what it meant in Kannada (Kids who are born cross will also have a cross mind).
Swami then told my mother that I was only giving her only trouble since the time I was born. I bent my head down with shame. It was an embarrassing moment and I had no clue what to tell Swami. Even as I was lost for words, the Ever Compassionate Lord decided to bail me out. He remarked "Kaani….Manchi Hridayamu" (But he has a good heart).
What more can I ask for from the Master who always stressed on having a good heart than a great mind! I was recharged and excited even as my head was back up with a 100-Watt smile. Swami continued "He doesn't want to hurt or hate anybody. But his mind is very stubborn. He does not listen to anybody. He does whatever he feels right – which is naturally coming from his father. The strong mind comes from his father."
Then I understood what Swami meant whenever HE declared in HIS discourses that 'Pleasure is only an interval between 2 pains". Here I was enjoying HIS praise, but I realized that is only momentary pleasure as Bhagawan tried to teach me another lesson in humility. After the usual 'dose', Swami lovingly asked my mother "How much loan has he taken from you?", which came as another shocker to my mother. She cleared her throat and replied "Around 6-7 lakhs for the studio". Swami exclaimed, "6-7 LAKHS??? Is the studio work going fine?"
Since I was being the 'target' here, I felt it was my duty to pitch in, I told HIM with confidence "Your work is going on, Swami", to which his prompt reply was "You are working hard. Don't worry. In course of time everything will be fine, then you should return it to mother with interest!" I was so overwhelmed by HIS loving words. I mean that feeling when God praises something or someone! But I was more surprised by the way HE plans even the small and silly things in our lives. After all, what am I, but a mere dust amidst the multitude of devotees who have sacrificed their everything for HIS sake. Yet, HE tries to make each and every one of us feel very special and dear to HIM. That's something that always bowls me over, which is definitely worth emulation in our daily lives.
Swami continued to enquire about lot of things going on in our lives.
Swami: "How was your tour?"
Me: "It was very fruitful, Swami. Enjoyed your presence there too"
Swami: "Chaala Manchidi (Very good)! Nobody asked about me?"
How can I answer such lovely, but obvious questions? My face wore a smile when he asked that.
Me: "Swami, everyone there asked about YOU alone. (I mustered up some courage and continued…) But I faced some problems there as few people tried to stop the Bhajan camp from happening due to my association with Muddenahalli!"
Swami: "Can anybody ever stop my sankalpa? If you close your eyes and say that the sun did not rise, it is only ignorance. Sun will rise and set as per my wish not as per the wish of the people. Therefore, you need not worry about all these issues. Those people who want to close their eyes and say there is no light, let them live in the dark. You can wake up someone who is asleep, but you cannot wake up someone who is pretending to be asleep."
Swami (after discussing few personal matters continued): "Now that you are training so many people musically, you train the children here too. A new Mandir is coming up soon and there will be daily bhajans in the Mandir! Many devotees are going to come in the future."
Swami (to my mother): "Have you finished building your house? (Guess it was my mother's turn to get bowled over even as Swami continued) Have you taken loan for that?"
My mom was quite surprised when Swami started enquiring about house and loan and stuff. Well, we prepared for a spiritually elevating interaction, and suddenly we find HIM enquiring about our daily lives and the issues that tag along. But the best part is that with every such question and answer, comes a pearl of wisdom with such an ease that we would never expect someone other than Bhagawan to use mundane affairs of our daily lives, to churn out profound lessons for life with such ease.
Mom opened up. She expressed her concern to Bhagawan about her inability to run the gas business for over thirty years now. And this, in spite of having over 30,000 costumers! By HIS grace alone, she was able to run this business successfully being the only women running this. But, now she has reached a stage where she is unable to run it anymore due to deteriorating health condition.
And that was when the Divine command was spelt out. Swami instructed "Then why do you suffer this way? Sell your business to a right person and then I will tell you what to do next.! Now that he (referring to me) has grown up, he will take care of you. Everything will improve."
My mom was so moved by HIS love, as she later recalled that throughout the entire session with Swami, she felt as if she was conversing with her own mother. And I remember whenever she replied to Swami, she had no hesitation or a sense of fear. It was such a loving and friendly conversation. When Sai Maa decides to win the heart of our own Maa, it's a special feeling which cannot be described in words.
Coming back to the story, when Swami told my mother that I would take care of her, she expressed her anguish saying "I am worried about him alone, Swami." To which our beloved Lord assured "I will look after him!" Well, I was on cloud nine. What more could I have asked for! No promise of Bhagawan EVER goes unkept. Swami then turned HIS attention towards me and remarked "Do you know…..your mother was so worried about building a house. She was felt she could do it without any support. You were still a student those days. BUT whenever there was a need for money, THAT very moment money would come in. Her loan was not sanctioned to add to the misery. But I got it sanctioned in the last moment. I have organized all that. I will organize your life too!"
I was on tears by now! I just did not know how to thank HIM for all that HE has been doing for us. We may forget to call out to HIM, yet HE never forgets to lend HIS hand to rescue us. Swami then told my mother not to worry about me and that when the right time approaches, HE would even find a suitable bride for me! Even till this day I have no clue if HE was joking or serious!! Then Swami said "He has to eat something. Otherwise nobody would marry him. He is looking like a Biology Lab's character! He does not eat anything, but only sings. You don't eat or sleep properly, hence, your body would keep only bad blood." I felt I should give HIM the reason too. I told him that I was deliberately avoiding most of the food in order to take care of my voice. Immediately, my mother grabbed the chance to complain about me, she told Bhagawan "Swami, he drinks tea all the time!"
It was as if Swami deliberately steered the topic that way so as to teach me a lesson in surrender as well. HE said "Deham Devalayam (Body is the temple of God). You should make your body too equally fit and proper. Only then God will reside in you. You have to look after this body not because you are living for yourself, but you have to look after it because you are living for God. Do you think you have built this voice and other things? It is given by God. When it is given by God, do you think HE won't look after it? You look after the Temple of God and God will look after your voice!"
As of once wasn't enough, my mother again 'reminded' HIM "Swami, he always drinks tea!" And that's when Swami commented "This is one kind of madness with musicians these days! Tyagaraja was a great artist. What tea did he drink? He was always thinking of God and singing God's glory. No one taught him Music. All these people have learnt on their own through their intense devotion to God. But modern day children think Music is what we learn from outside. Music does not come from outside. It comes from within. Don't think you can make things better. It has to become better on its own. If mother Sharada graces you, you will become better; otherwise, it won't happen no matter whatever you try."
I must confess here, I just learnt the highest lesson in Music from the Naada Brahma Himself. I decided that day, come whatever may, every song I sing, I have got to sing it for HIM. So what if there are thousands in the audience when we perform as a band, but each song and each line should be sung for HIM who has given us this precious gift of life.
Swami continued "Earn the grace of God. Everything will happen. What business did you mother know? Just because there was a need, she worked hard and came up in life. In this world, where business is dominated by men, a woman doing business is very difficult. Not many people can do this. But don't worry. The struggle is now over. Good times have come. You should look after your health properly. Otherwise nobody would respect you. You should also look good and sing well. But more importantly, you should have a good character.
The next question of Bhagawan brought a Dejavu feeling in me, HE enquired with my mother "Do you have my photo at home?" (Well, this was the same question HE had when HE granted our band an interview). Mother replied with childlike innocence "Yes Swami! A big one!" Immediately Swami remarked, "Yes. It's there right at the entrance itself and it can be seen from the road too!! Very happy. Don't worry. He is my hands. I will look after him. He had almost slipped out of my hand, but I have gone and caught him, and brought him back. He wanted to become a big music director in cinemas. Then Swami decided to warn me "All these are mad thoughts. You have no idea how bad it is over there." I did not think twice before telling HIM "Swami, I will not go anywhere. I want to be with You always!" Even as my eyes were about to well up, Swami assured me "You need not go. You teach Music. It's a great and respected profession."
I was all contended for now I know clearly how to serve in HIS mission. Swami compassionately asked my mother "Is your leg pain gone now?" My mother was taken aback by HIS love since she always had pain in her legs for quite some time now. Even before my mother could respond, Swami said "You have back pain also, because your body doesn't have enough exercise due to heavy work load. You need not sit or stand for long time. It has to be equal. Body is like a machine…..(after a pause) If I give you a saree, will you wear it?" When my mother replied in the positive, Swami asked for a Saree to be brought for my mother. I could understand how much HE had touched her heart when I looked at her eyes even as HE gifted her the saree.
Swami then asked me "You are singing bhajan today, right? Sing one or two bhajans". I was more than happy to hear those words. He asked my mother "What else amma?" She prayed to HIM "Swami, brother has also come." To which Swami's reply was "I did not call him! Let them be there. He helped you a lot. Have you got your gold back?" And by now, I was totally shocked. Even I did not know most of the things Swami discussed with her! I understood it's only between Swami and my mother. After discussing few personal matters, Bhagawan said "Faith in God alone can give you the strength to face life. Life is full of troubles. People think otherwise. If pleasure comes, instead of getting carried away, we should understand that pain is coming and on its way. When pain comes, you should be happy that pleasure would follow soon. That's how you find a balance in life. I have not done any injustice to anybody. We sow and reap what we sow! When difficulties come, you should realize that God has reduced it to a level that you can bear just like how a mother feeds food to the child. If it's hot, she blows on the food to cool it down and then feed the child. Likewise, I too reduce the trouble to the extent that you can bear with. Now he (referring to me) is there for you. He is Bangaram (Gold). You look after him. He will look after you. And I will look after both of you!! Do good work and I will always support.
Then Swami instructed me "For Summer Course, all the old students from Parthi, Brindavanam, and other campuses are coming together to put up a good music programme. Not cinema programme! Only devotional programme. Many people are coming from places across the country. So make sure it's all good. Has your band come?" When I replied in the negative, Swami remarked "Oh! Only you then. OK. You go and sing bhajan. I will come."
That evening, during HIS divine discourse after the bhajans, Swami categorically mentioned "No one can stop my Sankalpa!" He mentioned about HIS own early days at Parthi. He added "Sathya Sai Baba does not belong to puttaparthi! Puttaparti belongs to Sathya Sai Baba" He said even while making plans for Parthi, a lot of people had criticized HIS work and during HIS childhood too, people tried to burn down HIS house!! Seeing all these, Seshamaraju Gaaru reprimanded Swami "Why do you want to suffer like this? Why can't you just live like a normal human being?" And then Swami told us one statement what I would never forget – HE says "What would have happened to you all if I lived like a normal human being?"
Wah…That's billion dollar question which Bhagawan posed to all of us seated in the Darshan hall. I was wondering what really could have happened if HE chose not to do what HE wanted to do!
Then Swami revealed that the Truth always pass through the stages where it is criticized and ridiculed. But finally when both these fail to work, they surrender!
At the end I can only say that HIS Love is NEVER ending! It only expands by the second.
Much Love,
Sai Keshav

Sai Maa, Maa y yo! No podía controlar mi risa. No come nada, pero sólo canta. No te preocupes. Swami me pidió entonces "estás cantando bhajans hoy, ¿no? Yo no he hecho ninguna injusticia a nadie. He añadió "Sathya Sai Baba no pertenece a Puttaparthi! Mucho Amor, Sai Keshav
