New Year In The Divine Presence… & Other New Year Updates from Prasanthi Nilayam

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013
New Year in Prasanthi Nilayam is synonymous with the unique Bond Of Love between Bhagawan and His grateful students. It has been the set custom for over a decade that alumni from SSSIHL would assemble at His Lotus Feet celebrating the Bond Of Love.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
Following the tradition, hundreds of alumni from different parts of the globe assembled in Prasanthi today celebrating the New Year in the immediate Divine omnipresence.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
The programme for the evening commenced with a flag-march at 1645 hrs., that arrived at the Sanctum Sanctorum offering salutations at Bhagawan's Lotus Feet. The flag-march was accompanied by Veda chanting by the alumni.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
Even as the introductory speaker strolled into the nostalgic golden past, reminiscing their wonderful days with Bhagawan, after the flag-march, groups of students went forward with various offerings that included New Year Greetings, New Year Cake, Vidyullekha's latest edition, Bridge Across Time's latest volumes, chocolates etc.

Speakers for the session were Dr Srinivas and Sri Anil Kumar. Speaking about Bhagawan's guidance and direction in their lives, full of infinite compassion, Dr Srinivas said Bhagawan is with us even after His physical passing on. It is due to His grace and compassion that we are able to proceed forward in our lives, said the doctor narrating how Bhagawan's helping hand came at the right time when he met with a 'disaster', as his hospital in Vizag had collapsed only to revive back by His Divine grace, overcoming all obstacles. Bhagawan is with us every moment and let us all pray to Bhagawan to make our lives His message, concluded the grateful speaker.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
By the exemplary behaviour world should recognise that you are Sai students and thus about the glory of His Institution, thundered Sri Anil Kumar opening the floodgates of tales of His Bond Of Love with His students. Exhorting the students to join the main stream of Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Sri Anil Kumar told the students, that anyone who practises His teachings is a Sai student; One should earn the title by practising His teachings.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
Next, Rhythmic Energy, the famed Brass Band of the alumni, played some scintillating tunes. Beginning with an invocatory piece propitiating Mother Divine, they continued with Love Is My Form…, Hari Bhajana Binaa to wind up in style with a lively piece, a fusion of rhythm and energy symbolising Power Of Divine.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
As the twilight slowly set in, with musical stalwarts from the bygone era were around, it was time for a Musical Sandhya. Led by Dr. Sunam from the 80′s batch, singer cum composer, the music troupe took the floor presenting a unique offering, done most innovatively and aesthetically. Mostly using their own compositions, they sang seven pieces, that included a Kabir Vani, a Qawwali on Haji Ali and an English composition of "Love" sung strumming the guitar etc. Squatting in a semi-circle, with Dr Sunam compeering the show, the troupe strolled into the nostalgic past of their student days bursting into spells of songs for Him…Him and Him alone.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
The session concluded with Bhagawan singing 'Sathyam Jnaanam Anantham Brahma…' followed by Mangala Arathi offering at 1905 hrs.
New Year In The Divine Presence…
Earlier, in the New Year morning the Brass Band from the Institute presented a Band display playing five numbers. Compilations included Memories of the years gone by…, Celebrating the joyous presence of Bhagawan's omnipresence…, Life Is a Challenge Meet It…, Gopikas' unsullied devotion to Bhagawan Sri Krishna and I Will Be There For You…

Grateful Alumni Returns To Divine Mother's Fold…

Tuesday, January 1st, 2013
Grateful children returns to Divine Mother's fold recounting the Love Of Thousand Mothers – The Divine Mother Of Bounteous Pure Love, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai.Even as the year 2012 wears out into the annals of history, celebrating the 32nd anniversary of their alma mater, alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Primary School gathered at the Lotus Feet of Beloved Bhagawan on this new year eve today here in Prasanthi Nilayam.
The evening programme commenced at 1700 hrs. with two of the speakers, one apiece representing both boys and girls, recounting the 'wonder-touch' of The Mother With The Love Of Thousand Mother.
Speaking first, Ms Sonia Thakar, of batch of 1996-2003, who had her stint in professional journalism with famed TV channels, took the audience down the memory lane touching upon 'LOVE', the golden thread that links Him with His properties. Studying under Swami's umbrella has been a wonderful experience with values coming to the fore at every step, every day throughout…as a continuous learning experience, said a grateful Sonia narrating beautiful tales of His Touch Of Love. At a time when she entertained serious apprehensions about joining a TV channel, that was in the news for wrong reasons indulging in spreading negative propaganda about Bhagawan, the speaker narrated how subtly Bhagawan guided her to clarity through a Divine discourse.
Grateful Alumni Returns To Divine Mother's Fold…
Talking about Miracle Of His Divine Love, the speaker also narrated a couple of incidents wherein two families were saved from gruesome road accidents, unhurt. Lavishing special praise for the wonderfully dedicated teachers at the Primary School, the speaker paused a question, …In gratitude, what should we do? …we should be able to follow at least one of His teachings, said Sonia ending her exhilarating speech at a positive note, …let's step into 2013 as Sai is foremost in our thoughts, words and deeds, practising Love All Serve All.

Sri Sai Gunaranjan, of batch 1987-2002, who is the founder of United Care Development Services, a philanthropic forum taking active role in social service, spoke next calling it a Home Coming… Speaking about the dedicated devoted teachers at the School, Gunaranjan said, actual learning happens outside the classroom with Bhagawan at the centre. The great Mother that He is, Bhagawan balances it so skilfully as a Mother and extreme task master, Who pushes His students to the extreme to bring the best out of His students. His subtle influence helps His students to stretch beyond the boundaries.
Grateful Alumni Returns To Divine Mother's Fold…
Touching upon his area of social activities, Gunarajan opined that evil is rampant in today's world not because it is stronger but because good ones are silent. 'Giving' is inevitable in man's life, by default, as he has to leave everything when the final call comes; so, it is a matter of choice for man to decide when and where he practise the act of giving and sharing.
A bouquet of songs by the alumni followed, interspersed with beautiful narrations of wonderful tales with Bhagawan. Songs for the evening were: Pyare Sai Hamare…, Tu Pyar Ka Sagar Hai…, Someone Above To Guide Me…, Maula Maula Mere… and Mother Of Mine….
A short video on the Primary School followed, wherein Bhagawan spoke of very high of the wonderment called Sri Sathya Sai Primary School.
Grateful Alumni Returns To Divine Mother's Fold…
Bhajans contined and ended with Mangala Arathi at 1830 hrs.
Tomorrow, on the New Year morning, SSSIHL Brass Band would play special tunes in the morning. In the evening, alumni of SSSIHL would be presenting special programme. The programme would commence with a procession from Yajur Mandir followed by speeches, band programmes and songs.
WE WISH OUR READERS A HAPPY HOLY NEW YEAR!! Let's bring a smile on His beautiful face by practising Care For Life, Concern For Nature and Respect For Creation…!!!

Welcoming The New…

Welcoming The New…

Tuesday, January 1st, 2013
Year 2012 is wearing out and a new 2013 is just a few hour away…For western devotees who are flocking to the Abode Of Peace, some who are permanently and happily settled in Puttaparthi, Nearfars, Prasanthi is indeed something extra special, Christmas and New Year as well extra special compared to the occasion in the far west. With 2013 unfolding Ms Sue Kelly Christie meeting a cross section of westerners, sensing their pulse for Prasanthi and Bhagawan…
Hello Dear Readers, take a stroll with me as we celebrate and welcome in the New Year in Prasanthi. New Year in Prasanthi Nilayam is a continuation of the Lord's Blessings, following as it does, a sparkling array of hymns, plays, bhajans, dance displays, and musical appreciation of the glorious Lord which preceded this marking of the New Year 2013.
Swami often referred to His foreigners so charmingly as His Far Nears. Well, some of them now are His Near Fars, as they now reside here in Parthi virtually permanently, when weather and visas permit.
Christmas is a big magnet event even though the even bigger magnet of Sai Baba's form is no longer on view.
We felt it would be fun and interesting for you to meet some of these fascinating "Nearfars." I set about searching some out for your delight and edification, to get their views about being here, in India in this most sacred Abode at this reverential time of the year.
Welcoming The New…
Firstly, allow me to introduce you to Mr. Roy Christie a veteran journalist, critic, author and husband of note. Also now a resident in Puttaparthi for nearly five years. Roy who is 82 years young, gave me these thoughts: "In the context of Sai Baba's teachings the New Year is not just a calendar milestone but offers us another opportunity to focus on raising our spiritual awareness. I find it useful to bear in mind that Swami has told us that our entire Cosmos is but "a flake of froth on the Atma." When we realise how vast and immeasurable is Creation, pettiness and small-mindedness in our human relations become truly ridiculous. The power of love releases the Divinity in us all."
Australian Penny and her husband of 35 years Renato. Penny and Renato Ciammaruconi are a charming couple who reside in this Divine Abode. Penny first came to India in the 1970s and she has such a passionate love for India that she only really feels at home here and always wanted to live in India. She told me how she felt about being in India for Christmas and the New Year.
"In the West I found the whole Christmas experience to be quite sad, and wasn't really looking forward to it. You know all the drinking and partying yet forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. But then, when I came here and saw all the wonderful children celebrating Christmas it was so heartwarming. Of course the Christmas that really stands out in my mind for me, was the one where Swami came out on the balcony all dressed in white, that was quite thrilling and shall live on in my memory forever. Hopefully next year we shall also be here again."
Renato is an Italian by birth and a wonderfully flamboyant character and he tells me that most of the attention he had from Baba was in public. In fact, probably Renato's best Christmas gift was on the 26th December, 2009. Swami was giving darshan. He came past Renato's row and Renato asked Baba if he could please take Padmanaskar. Swami said take.
Then, said Renato: "I felt myself being prompted, ask Him for a ring". So I said "Swami, can you make a ring for me?" And to Renato's utter amazement Swami performed His characteristic swirl of the hand and lo and behold made him the most beautiful gold ring with Swami 's image engraved upon it.
Renato looking lovingly at this Divine Christmas present from the Divine Christmas Presence and told me, his joy reflecting in his lively Italian eyes, "You know, when you look at this ring, the expression keeps changing."
I am sure when He sees the Love for Him that Renato exudes, Swami's expression is one of Divine Love for His devotee Renato.
Another lovely couple I caught up with whilst whizzing along the Parthi roads:
Don McDonough and his lovely wife Janneke. They have been resident in Puttaparthi since 2007, coming to settle here from their native South Africa. Janneke is a stalwart worker in the Western canteen, also a heartfelt bhajan singer. Don told me of his feelings living here in this most sacred of places, and celebrating Christmas here:
"As I was walking along the streets of Puttaparthi earlier today, I was held in awe, as I felt what it must have been like to walk upon the streets of Ayodhya in the days Of Lord Rama and Dwaraka in the time of Lord Krishna and now of course to be able to walk along the streets of Parthi, the Birthplace of Lord Sai."
"I also had an overwhelming feeling, whilst sitting in the ashram yesterday and realising that no matter who walks in through those ashram gates, they must have done so much to attain that right. Sitting inside the Sai Kulwant hall and seeing all the people having darshan of the Sanctum Sanctorum and realising that all of the people here are earning and receiving and benefitting from Grace. The Grace of the Avatar! The heartfelt feeling I have, not only about being here for this Blessed Christmas and New Year but being able to actually live here, is one of extreme gratitude."
Another Lovely and charming Nearfar is Moira Rowe from Devon, which is a beautifully picturesque part of England. Mo initially came here to Party, with a group from Bristol – she told me she had been searching for almost 20 years. She first came to India to visit a spiritual guru, who told her 'You need the Divine male energy '– So when she went back home to Bristol she again went searching and found herself in a Sai centre there. On her very first visit there, she saw a full length picture of Sai Baba and she knew this was it – then, she saw beautiful oranges and pink colours radiating out of Baba's photograph.
Right there and then, on the spot she joined a group of nine others who were coming to visit Swami and that was it. Since 1995 Mo has been celebrating every Christmas and New Year here. On her very first trip she has been graced with three Interviews with Baba.
I asked her how she felt about the New Year 2013. She said: "The New Year I feel very positive about and know that there will be a beautiful shift in energies and a raising of consciousness."
Nora Espinoza is another fascinating Nearfar- she hails from Venezuela. She first came to visit Baba in 1989 and has also had three interviews. In one of them Swami told her: "I am very, very happy that you are here at Christmas singing and praying with the Lord, not smoking, drinking or wild partying but celebrating the birth of Christ here with the Lord, it makes me Very , Very Happy!"
My own New Year philosophy is this; In the west, the prospect of the New Year seemed to always fill me with a little dread. So, the fact of being a performer meant I usually had a show somewhere, which was a gift in itself. There is so much pressure, albeit subtle, placed upon everyone to celebrate and embrace this New Year as if the mere promise of something new was the guarantor of happiness, then you awaken on the second and everything is still the same.
Being with our Lord however, certainly changed all of that. He brings about a change, but not a superficial amendment, rather a deeply spiritual awakening, to alert you to the God within your very being. Once this is realised, then indeed every day is New Year's Day. Give up thinking for my New Year's resolution – just gets in the way on the road to God's Blissful Love.
Two Buddist monks talking, one turns to the other and says, You really are absolutely thoughtless – hearty congratulations!
So that's my New Year's resolution – to give up thinking!
And let us leave the Beloved Lord's words upon all of us here fortunate to be living in Puttaparthi for the Blessed Birth of the Lord and bringing in the New Year, the Year of Our Lord, 2013.
As Swami told some of His beloved devotees in His Interview room: "I am Very, Very happy that you are here with the Lord celebrating the Sacred Birth,Very, Very Happy!
May Swami bestow His Blessings and Love Divine upon us all now in 2013 and always. And may YOU always be Very, Very Happy – New Year… Bring on 2013!

The Key to a 'Happy New Year' from Sai
It is that time of the year when we wish happiness for everyone around us and ourselves. Regardless of how happy the past year has been, we wish that the new year brings more happiness. But few stop to wonder what is happiness. What does it mean to be happy and what does it take to be happy? The answers to these vital questions are the essence of human existence, and when that be the case, is there any surprise that the Lord in human form encouraged and inspired each of us to seek these answers.
To begin this new year in the right earnest and to make sure that we pursue true happiness, we offer you Baba's New Year message of the years 1974 and 1979. These were letters written to His boys of the Brindavan college, greeting and blessing them on the New Year's Day. Though written three decades ago, the message it carries is of eternal relevance, like the love of our Lord Who penned these letters.

Dear Boys!
Wish you happy and peaceful New Year. What is the happiest day in your life? All are happy days to a person of true knowledge.
Happiness is an internal conscious experience which comes as an effect of the extinction of mental or physical desire. The lesser the desire, the greater is the happiness. So perfect happiness consists in the destruction or satisfaction of all desires in the absolute being.
Life is an experience meant to train the individual for a higher, deeper and expanded state of existence through the experience of the results of action. The aim of everybody's life is the attainment of complete perfection in the Spiritual Absolute.
Prema is not an illusion. It is a reality and actuality for those who have realised oneness in life.
What is man's dearest possession apart from his life? One's dearest possession is one's own true Self and there is no permanently dear thing apart from that.
God is great, all others are mere dust. God only is real and great. Everything else is unreal and valueless. I go further to say that God only exists and there is nothing second to Sai (God).
With Blessings,
Baba.

My Dear Boys!
Heartiest greetings and all good wishes for a Happy Day and New Year. Love is patient and kind, it is not jealous or conceited or proud. Love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable.
Love does not keep a record of wrongs. Love is not happy with evil, but is happy with truth. Love never gives up and it gives faith and hope. Love is eternal.
With Love, Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
