Baba is in His Mandir. Devotees sing Bhajan and then a lady offers Aarathi to Him. BABA: Lady are you offering Aarathi?… Alright, go ahead. Baba coughs badly. Devotees are very upset. With an effort,
Baba now speaks. BABA: Isn’t the Aarathi over? All of you go now and have your meals…………Malsa! MALSA: Baba! | |
| BABA: Shyama! SHYAMA: Baba! BABA: Aren’t you going to listen to the words of Baba? Are you going to starve this Baba? If you all do not eat, how will My hunger be appeased? That’s why I am asking all of you to go and eat. ………… Listen to Me and go and have your meals. ….. Go….Are you not going? GO! ……GO! Say !! Go and have food. People leave most reluctantly; Baba is left alone. |
SCENE - IV
Masjid again. The time is fast approaching for Baba to shed His mortal coil. Devotees are aware of it, and are full of grief. BABA: Shyama! SHYAMA: Baba! BABA: Have all the works connected with the modifications to the Krishna Temple in Buti Wada been completed? | |
| SHYAMA: Yes Baba, they have all been completed, and I want to take you there…. BABA: Are you taking Me there…?! SHYAMA: Yes, we all have decided so together. Baba, please will you come? BABA: Yes Shyama, I shall come, but not now! When it is time to go, we shall all go together! |
| APPA KOTE PATIL: Baba, are You saying that we will go after You get better? BABA: Appa Patil, do you have any doubts that I will get better? PATIL: Don’t say such a thing, Baba! BABA: Shyama! It is all your imagination to think that presently I am moving about here and there and that when I stop doing so, it would be Samadhi……..You won’t understand the meaning of all that now, but when the time and the occasion comes, all of you will. |
A LADY: When I hear Your words…………. BABA: Do you think something is going to happen to me? Listen Lakshmi Bai. What has to happen will certainly happen somewhere or the other, sometime or the other! A MAN: Baba, don’t say that! You must always be with us! Without Your Grace, can we survive even for a minute? BABA: Mmmm, ……..I am now going to ask all of you a straight question. All these days, did you see only My physical Form? Is there anyone amongst you who has also seen the glory of the Atma? |
ANOTHER MAN: No Baba! When we have Your Darshan, we forget everything else! MALSA: Baba, my vision is entirely directed towards You. And all I see is the compassion in Your eyes. BABA: Malsa! If you see only My physical Form, it is your mistake. The Glory of the Atma cannot be seen; it has first to be experienced and then relished. The Atma is subtle and eternal. You cannot see it with your physical eyes; you can only see it with your inner eye and experience it. ……….mmmm. |
| LADY: Baba, please don’t strain Yourself by talking. Baba coughs BABA: Malsa! MALSA: Baba! |
BABA: Will you give Me some beetle leaves? MALSA: Yes Baba, I will. MAN: Baba, Your health is not good; please rest. You are very weak; Baba, please listen to my words! Can we live without You? | |
| BABA: Shyama, life and death are not in our hands. When the work for which we have come here is over, we necessarily have to return! When we inhale air, does the air remain for ever inside? No, it goes out after some time. Similarly, when we eat food, does the food remain inside? No, it does not. ……mmmmm… The whole of Creation depends on breath, that’s all!…… Life and death are related to inhalation and exhalation. Death pertains only to the body and not to the Atma. …. This being that you are seeing, will still be with you, even if you don’t see the body. My Atma will always be amidst you. I will be like a shadow and a support, and a guide to all of you. It means I am in you, with you and around you. Baba coughs badly |
LAKSHMI BAI: Baba! BABA: Lakshmi Bai! LAKSHMI BAI: Baba! BABA: Hold out your hand…..(gives coins) Do you know why I am giving you these coins? ……. These nine coins signify the nine paths of devotion. Sravanam [Listening to sacred things], Keertanam [singing the glory of God], Vishnu Smaranam [chanting the Name of the Lord], Charana Sevanam [service at the Lotus feet], Archanam [ritual worship], Vandanam [offering salutations], Dasyam [servitude], Saakhyam [friendship], and Atma Nivedanam [surrender]. These, my dear, are the nine prescribed paths of devotion. …. Lakshmi Bai, you have offered to this Baba during His Shirdi sojourn, these nine forms of devotion with so much love! That’s why, my dear lady, that’s why I am giving you these coins. Keep them carefuly! Baba again has a coughing bout. |
| MALSA: Baba, Baba, ….. please do not exert Yourself by talking. Please take rest. We are feeling very anxious. Please rest, Baba. We are all frightened, Baba! Yes Baba! Please take rest! Please don’t talk. BABA: Yes, I shall rest! ….I shall take rest! Till now, all of you have seen only My outer Form. In future, when you meditate on Me, I will be right in front of you; you will see Me just as you are seeing Me now. Baba coughs once more. LADY: Please rest, Baba. |
MALSA: Baba, please rest. We are very much worried. MAN: Please take good rest, Baba. We are frightened! BABA: I shall do so. …. Malsa! MALSA: Baba! BABA: Do you remember how you addressed Me when I first came to Shirdi? MALSA: Baba, I do remember. I had the good fortune to address You as “Ya Sai”. | |
BABA: How then did that Sai change into Baba? MALSA: When You were installed in our hearts, You became Sai Baba. BABA: Mmm… Till today You have heard the words of this Sai. Nana Chandorkar, Shyama, Madhav Patle, Bala Shimbe, Baloji, Malsa, Appa Kote Patil, Ramachandra Patil, Nimondkar, Lakshmi Bai, the words I am now going to utter are not teachings or gospel but a prophecy. This is Baba Vani. Coughing fit. | |
BABA: None of you should get agitated on hearing this prophecy. Eight years after I attain Samadhi, My Atma will again take a body, and, for the sake of service to humanity, incarnate as an Avatar. I shall incarnate again in the village of Puttaparthi that is in Anantapur District of the Rayalaseema region of Madras Presidency. ……….. This is a secret! This is a secret!…. Therefore, none of you should be upset. In this birth, I was born in Pathri but next time, the birth will be in Parthi! Puttaparthi! |

K. RAJU: Salutations sir! GURU: Come Raju, come! Sit down. ….. This is all God’s will! Perhaps only now you could find the time to come to your Guru Venkavadhoota. K. RAJU: After one long year, I now have the good fortune to be able to see you! | | |
| | GURU: For Venkavadhoota, the whole world is his home! Like the wind I move here and there, and my feet never stay put in one place. One moment here, next moment there! K. RAJU: Swami! Of late I am feeling very much agitated, and I am always thinking of you. The age of Kali has become the age of famine! The mind of man has become polluted. Wherever you turn, you see only lawlessness, wickedness, and injustice.

| | GURU: I fully understand what you are saying. K. RAJU: Forgive me sir! Talking about all sorts of things I completely forgot about the eatables that I have brought for you! In keeping with tradition, I have personally made this dish for my revered Guru! Please accept what I have brought. |
GURU: Very happy! Ram, Ram, Ram, Ram……[starts eating] Kondamma, like you I also belong to the Ratnakara lineage! Our tradition has always been to serve good and noble people. There is no power greater than that conferred by service to the Master. Ram, Ram, Ram… Food is the very embodiment of God! Ram, Ram, Ram … Dishes may differ but the satisfaction of consumption is the same. The Names and the Forms may vary but God is present everywhere in a most wondrous way, including in you and me.

| | Ram, Ram, Ram…… God shows His Omnipresence in many ways but man’s vision is restricted to the external world. Poor fellow, he believes that what is visible to the eyes alone is real. He fails to understand that what lies beyond the visible is the Infinite. That is God! He also does not realise that he himself is God!! To see the Inner Self, to see God inside, one must open one’s mind’s eye. |
K. RAJU: Swami, please tell me what the Inner Self means. GURU: Through the use of his senses, man is able to experience the purity of water, the heat of the fire, the sweetness of fruits, the taste of food, the coolness of the breeze, the strength of the earth and even the vastness of space. But he is not able to comprehend what lies behind all these! Happiness produces brightness, but is it the same as the brightness of sunlight? Pain produces gloom, but is it the same as the darkness of the night? K. RAJU: Swami! Your words are so comforting to me! | | |

GURU: There is more Kondamma! While Creation has only five characteristics, man, who has one more, has gone astray. His mind has strayed onto the wrong path, and as a result he is agitated and has also become selfish! …… At the end of it all, he is restless! K. RAJU: Is there no way to remove this restlessness?

GURU: There is! In every age, the wicked get punished and the good are protected. You know that in every age, Lord Narayana Himself incarnates to re-establish Righteousness [Dharma]. K. RAJU: Yes I know, but in this Kali age…….? GURU: Look my dear fellow! Man can stop a small flow but not a deluge. Only God can do that. The world is ridden with attachment and it is like a deluge. To re-establish Dharma in this polluted world, to protect the good, to show the proper path to people in the grip of illusory attachment, Narayana will incarnate again - yes, even in this Kali Age! | | |
| | K. RAJU: Swami, when is that glorious moment going to come? GURU: Very soon…Lord Narayana is going to take birth in OUR Ratnakara family! You will definitely have His Darshan! He will shower His love on you. He will show the proper way to the world. He will wipe out the troubles of the good and re-establish Dharma. He will - and this is the Truth! |
K. RAJU: Swami, I am so happy that the very Lord is going to incarnate. All along, I was plagued with doubts, but now your words offer much comfort. Thank you! GURU: Why all this?! Everything will be auspicious! I have to leave now and continue my journey.

K. RAJU: Swami, this place has been sanctified by your feet! When will I get again the opportunity of serving you?
GURU: Have I not already answered that Kondamma?! Know one thing for sure. Humanity is one. Service to man is service to God. The heart saturated with Love does not make distinctions like mine and thine. It derives satisfaction by serving all. I now take your leave. May all people be happy! May the whole world be happy!

Easwaramma is offering ritual worship in her house, and at the end of it, is offering Aarathi to the deities. ESWARAMMA: Seshamma Raju, Seshamma! SESHAMMA: Coming mother. | | |
ESWARAMMA: Venkamma! VENKAMMA: Coming mother! ESWARAMMA: Parvathamma! …. Receive the Aarathi. ESWARAMMA: Now receive the Prasaadam, and after that go to school. Be careful. Inform your father before you go. CHILDREN: We will do as you say mother! FATHER: Seshamma, come back quickly.
 | | After the children leave, a lady named Subbamma comes to the house. This lady is a noble one. She loved Swami very much right from the time of birth. She instinctively knew that, He was Divine. Subbamma walks in calling out the name of Eswaramma, and the latter welcomes the visitor. SUBBAMMA: Easwaramma! ESWARAMMA: Come Subbamma, come! |
SUBBAMMA: Easwaramma, we are performing the worship of Lord Sathya Narayana in our house. All of you please come, witness the function, and receive Prasaadam. ESWARAMMA: Certainly! I am very happy. It is a great blessing to witness the Puja of Sathya Narayana. I shall most unfailingly come. SUBBAMMA: It is all the will of the Lord. All preparations for the Puja have been completed. ….. Please finish your work and come quickly! I take your leave now, Easwaramma.
SCENE 2 Sometime after Subbamma leaves, a man and a woman come to the Raju house. Venkama Raju (V RAJU) is seated outside, and he greets the visitors. V.RAJU: Come, come please, Mr. Raghava Rao. RAO: Salutations. V.RAJU: You have come at an odd time! RAO: Pardon me for that. I had to see you. Tomorrow, I am going to Madanapalli to celebrate the marriage of my daughter Rajeswari. Your father Kondamma Raju is the village elder. His blessings are most valuable. V.RAJU: Is that so? RAO: Your revered father came and blessed her when she was named and when she was admitted in school. If the hands that built the Temple of Sathyabhama were to bless this wedding necklace made for my daughter, she would lead a happy married life. V.RAJU: My father is ever ready to do good work, and does not wait for a specially auspicious time. Please come inside. RAO: Thank you. All three go inside to meet Kondama Raju, who is seated there. V.RAJU: [to Kondama] Father, this gentleman has come to seek your blessings for the marriage of his daughter. RAO: [to Kondama] Salutations sir! K.RAJU: Rajeswari is like my grand daughter. My blessings are always there for her….. Venkamma, in the old box inside, there is a Dharmavaram silk saree. Bring that and give it to this couple. V.RAJU: Certainly. Venkama Raju goes inside and fetches the saree. Kondama gives it to the couple. K.RAJU: May the couple lead a long and happy married life. RAO & HIS WIFE: Sir, we take your leave. K.RAJU: Goodbye.
