- Rs.150 CRORE 'SAI ASHRAM' @ SHIRDI -
On Thursday 11th April`2013, on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa,
the New State-of-the-art, Eco-friendly "SAI-ASHRAM" was inaugurated near the Sai Baba Temple`Shirdi.
One of the largest pilgrim accommodation facilities in India, constructed on an area of about 9.60 Lakh Sq.ft
this "SAI-ASHRAM" built at a cost of Rs.150 crore, has the capacity to host over 14,000 people at a time.
This entire cost of making this "SAI-ASHRAM", Rs.110 crore was funded by the Shirdi Sai Trust, Chennai,
alone from its own resources while the SSST provided 22 acres of land including Internal and External roads,
walkways, power, street lights, water supply, parking and landscaping, all at a cost of about Rs.45 crore.
Without retaining any rights whatsoever in the project, this new "SAI-ASHRAM" was handed over
by the Shirdi Sai Trust, Chennai, on 24th October 2012, the auspicious day of Vijayadashmi, to the
Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan Trust how will now arrange for the management, maintenance, staffing and security.
"SAI-ASHRAM"- 1 : is on the Nagar – Manmad State Highway towards Ahmednagar about 1 Kilometer away,
towards South of the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir Complex. It has 13 blocks span over 15 acres of land,
consisting of 1,536 rooms which can accommodate 9000 devotees.
3 blocks (384 rooms) are air-conditioned while 9 blocks are non air-conditioned ones.
The remaining block is specially made for serving meals to the devotees.
The charges for an A/c room is Rs.900/- only, while of the Non-A/c room is Rs.500/- only.
"SAI-ASHRAM"- 2 : has 6 blocks consisting of 192 large dormitories which can accommodate over 5,000 people.
Each such dorm can accommodate 21 people at a time and has been specially made keeping in mind the huge group
of devotees who accompany various Sai Palkis` to Shirdi. The charges for each dorm is Rs.10/ only.
There is also another common services block with a restaurant for devotees.
Both SAI-ASHRAMS have been landscaped with a total of about 1,350 trees, 50,000 plants & shrubs
and 27,000 sq. ft. of lawns to provide good environment for the stay of devotees.
Parking facilities have been provided for a large number of cars, two-wheelers and buses.
Besides a Restaurant & common services block for the pilgrims, there is also a massive Open Air-theater (OAT)
which can accommodate 2,000 devotees for Sai Kirtans, Bhajans and other cultural events
and also play host to Saibaba 'Palkis' (palanquins), which arrive here regularly from all over India
There are also two sewage treatment plants to recycle water,
which would be supplied to toilets and used for non-drinking purposes.
Hot water will flow to all rooms from a Solar water heater.
Phase II of the Sai Ashram accommodation project is being planned to accommodate 3,456 people.
Sai Ashram Phase II is situated near the New Prasadalaya Building on Nagar – Manmad State Highway
towards Manmad about 1 Kilometer away North of the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir Complex.

On 04th Feb`2006, the Shirdi Sai Trust`Chennai, to provide good and affordable accommodation to devotees
coming to Shirdi, had signed a MoU with the Shirdi Sansthan for construction of "SAI -ASHRAM",
for providing accommodation for about 10,000 devotees in an estimated area of 6 Lakh Sq. ft,
at a cost of Rs.25 Crores and to be completed in 18 months.
The Sansthan made land of 19.68 acres available for the construction of Sai Ashram,
in two locations in July 2007. While the work on this project started in September 2007.
The project has been executed by about 12 contractors and service providers.
Original plan for completion was 18 months, but the project got delayed
due to recession in the construction industry, shortage in the supply of raw materials, skilled labour etc,
increased the size of the project from the original 6.00 lakh sq. feet to 9.60 lakh sq. feet.
As a result, the project cost increased from the original Rs.25 Crore in MOU to about Rs.110 Crore on completion.
