En marzo de 2013, el templo de Sai Baba en Shirdi lidiado con crisis severa de agua como la sequía golpeó varios distritos de Maharashtra.
Alrededor de 50.000 devotos llegan a Shirdi todos los días de diferentes partes del país y el número sube
incluso 3 lakh durante las vacaciones para los que la Shirdi Sansthan confianza requiere 40 litros de agua al día lakh.
Como no había suministro normal de agua de la presa de Darna Nashik, que a su vez fue secando debido a la sequía severa,
el templo de Shirdi también tuvo que hacer frente a una crisis severa de agua al igual que lo tuvo en 2012, cuando una sequía similar había golpeado Maharashtra.
Los depósitos de agua que suministran agua a la Shirdi Sansthan, casi se habían secado hasta una profundidad de sólo alrededor de 1 pie.
Y el agua no puede ser bombeada desde el finde Lagos para guardar los peces allí.
Por lo tanto, para satisfacer las necesidades de agua al día, teniendo en cuenta la gran carrera de los devotos en el Sai Baba Santuario,
el Fideicomiso Sai gastan alrededor Rs.1 lakh diariamente a comprar el agua a través de camiones cisterna privados. Mientras que en el 'Prasadalaya',
las comidas se servían en platos thermocol desechables en lugar de los normales de acero, para reducir al mínimo el uso de agua.
Los tanques de agua de la EFS confianza tienen una capacidad para almacenar 332 millones de litros
pero como aproximadamente 40% del agua en sus tanques se filtra,
las autoridades decidieron cubrir con láminas de plástico que tuvieron un mes en completarse.
También decidió cerrar 500 habitaciones en sus casas de campo durante 3 días.
Muchos pobladores locales habían ofrecido agua para el Sansthan de sus pozos.
Y, el Shirdi Trust también pidió al departamento de riego del estado y el comisionado de la división de Nashik para
facilitar la liberación regular de agua de la presa Darna al Sai Baba confianza para que sus problemas de agua se pueden resolver.
Adicionalmente, el Fideicomiso Shirdi tomó la decisión de proporcionar 1.000 tanques de agua de plástico de capacidad de 5000 litros
a un costo de 5 rupias millones de rupias a casi 1.500 aldeas sólo en el distrito de Ahmednagar golpeado por la sequía y la escasez de agua.
La propuesta fue enviada al Banco de Aurangabad del Tribunal Superior de Bombay, para su sanción.
Pero entonces algunos aldeanos en Shirdi llamaron a las puertas de la Corte pidiendo la decisión de ser revisados.
Enterado de la petición, en abril de Justicia NH Patil y Justicia AV Nirgude pidieron al Shirdi Confianza donar Rs.25 millones de rupias
al fondo de alivio de la sequía del Primer Ministro para la elaboración de sistemas de abastecimiento de agua en los 15 distritos más afectados.
También le dijo al Gobierno que presente un informe completo sobre la utilización del fondo para las aldeas en todos los 15 distritos.
Asimismo, los peticionarios habían planteado la cuestión de los gastos masivos en la impresión de calendarios y fotografías,
ghee y la adquisición de agua mineral. Dado que el Sai Trust está gastando más de Rs.2 millones de rupias en el agua mineral,
se propuso que la confianza en sí estableció su propia planta de agua mineral para satisfacer la demanda.
Así que en el día propicio de Gudi Padwa el Jueves, 11 de abril 2013 Jayant Kulkarni, el juez de distrito de Ahmednagar,
quien también es Presidente del Fideicomiso Sansthan entregó un cheque de Rs.25 millones de rupias en nombre de Shirdi Sansthan a la
Primer Ministro de Maharashtra Shri.Prithviraj Chavan a Fondo de Ayuda para la Sequía, que aseguró a la
finalización de Nilwande presa que había detenido debido a la falta de fondos, pero que ahora se terminó
tomar préstamos y asistencia de Shirdi Sansthan.

- SEVERE WATER CRISIS @ SHIRDI'S SAI BABA TEMPLE -

the Shirdi Temple also had to face a severe water crisis just like it had to in 2012, when a similar drought had hit Maharashtra.
The water tanks which supply water to the Shirdi Sansthan, had almost dried up to a depth of around 1 feet only.
And water could not be pumped from the Lakes inorder to save the fishes there.
Therefore, to meet the daily water requirement, considering the heavy rush of devotees at the Sai Baba Shrine,
the Sai Trust spend about Rs.1 lakh daily to purchase water through private tankers. While at the 'Prasadalaya',
meals were being served on disposable thermocol plates instead of the regular steel ones, to minimize the use of water.
The water tanks of the Sai Trust have a capacity to store 332 million litres
but as about 40% of the water in their tanks percolates,
the authorities decided to cover them with plastic sheets which took a month to complete.
It also decided to shut down 500 rooms at its lodges for 3 days.
Many local villagers had offered water to the Sansthan from their wells.
And, the Shirdi Trust also requested the state irrigation department and Nashik's divisional commissioner to
facilitate regular release of water from Darna dam to the Sai Baba Trust so that their water woes can be resolved.
Additionally, the Shirdi Trust took a decision to provide 1000 plastic water tanks of 5000-litre capacity
at a cost of Rs.5 crore to nearly 1500 villages only in Ahmednagar district hit by drought and water scarcity.
A proposal was sent to the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court for its sanction.
But then few villagers in Shirdi knocked on the doors of the Court asking for the decision to be reviewed.
Taking cognizance of the petition, in April, Justice N H Patil & Justice A.V Nirgude asked the Shirdi Trust to donate Rs.25 crore
to the Chief Minister's drought relief fund for drafting water supply schemes in worst-affected 15 districts.
It also told the Government to submit a comprehensive report on the utilization of the fund for villages in all the 15 districts.
The petitioners had also raised the issue of massive expenditure on printing of calendars and photographs,
ghee and mineral water procurement. Since the Sai Trust is spending well over Rs.2 crore on mineral water,
it was proposed that the trust itself set up its own mineral water plant to meet the demand.
So on the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa on Thursday, 11th April 2013 Jayant Kulkarni, District Judge of Ahmednagar,
who is also Chairperson of the Sansthan Trust handed over a cheque of Rs.25 crore on behalf of Shirdi Sansthan to the
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri.Prithviraj Chavan towards Drought Relief Fund, who assured the
completion of Nilwande Dam which had halted due to lack of funds but would now be finished
taking loans and assistance from Shirdi Sansthan.
