Question: Swami, in the book, 'The Story Divine', one chapter described the trip to Mt. Kailash, where Brother Madhusudan witnessed Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati bend down to Swami and do padanamaskar (touching the feet). How is this to be understood, Swami? It is our understanding that You are the Embodiment of Shiva and Shakti. However, in the book, you describe yourself as the Emperor of Brahmaloka. How can we understand this?
Swami: God is Adviteeyam – one without a second. That is the pure, unsullied truth. He is in the form of Being, or Atma, which does not have any gunas (attributes) or any other aspect. It is pure, unsullied bliss. When electricity runs through a bulb, it radiates light; when it runs through a fan, it 'becomes' the wind; when it runs through an air conditioner, it becomes cool air or heat. It is the same electricity which runs through various objects or instruments, which causes different kinds of results. Similarly, the same Atma has taken various forms, right from the greatest of the gods, to ordinary insects and ants. Everything is working because of this electricity called Atma but, because of its contact with the various kinds of forms, it produces different results.
When it comes to Shiva and Shakti, think of three aspects of God: Generator, Organiser and Destroyer – that is 'G‐O‐D'. It is very easy to understand. He is the one who creates, the one who sustains and the one who finally causes the dissolution of the entire Universe. Such is the nature of God.
What is the truth? You must understand the essence of the Shiva‐Shatki form. That way, when you look at it, Parameswara‐Parvati, which symbolises that aspect, is definitely different from the Atma which Swami symbolises. Yet, for your understanding, it is being explained in this way. Whilst Swami as Atma Swaroopa operates as the resident of this whole Universe, there are departments which operate under the guidance of the leadership of devatas or gods. This is the difference though, at the Atmic level, the working level, or the managing level, they are two different aspects.
You consider Swami as the Parabrahma Shiva, that is, Atma. When you speak of Shivoham, you do not refer to Lord Shiva, you refer to the principle of Lord Shiva, which is auspiciousness and goodness. That principle of Shiva‐Shakti is what Swami truly signifies, which is why there is a slight difference as you read along in the book.

Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara are the various aspects into which the entire Universe has been distributed. Under them are gods, demigods and many other beings, such as angels, who are running all the departments, just like the government works with a president, ministries, various departments, officers and other public servants. That is how each of these departments operate. So, when you speak about Shiva‐Shakti, that is the department of dissolution. Shakti, by itself, is the power of dissolution – Shiva is the principal and Shakti
is the power. When both come together, it is called Shiva‐Shakti.
To clarify, I have mentioned that when I must manifest Myself, I need to take some form, some aspect, so I took the aspect of Shiva‐Shakti, which truly stands for the principle of Shiva, as its auspiciousness destroys all evil, whilst Shakti is the power that destroys the evil and restores truth. The principle of Shiva‐Shakti is what Swami embodies and stands for.
