The divine energy flowing through the congregation of devotees was palpable, for it was a joyous occasion, not just for the devotees, but for a large number of school-going children who were the beneficiaries of Bhagawan's divine prasadam in the form of wholesome, nutritious breakfast. It was the fifth-year anniversary of the Annapoorna Breakfast Programme, a unique service opportunity envisaged and carried out under the guidance of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. This day also marks the second anniversary of the formation of Annapoorna trust which undertakes the service activities. In the year 2012, a band of dedicated volunteers undertook to dedicate six days in a week, cooking and providing nutritious breakfast to 50 school-going children from malnourished backgrounds. From this modest beginning, this service has now expanded across 10 Indian states and one Union territory, involving 1500 volunteers, feeding nutritive breakfast every day to 100,000 children. The Sri Sathya Sai Sharadaniketanam, was established in the year 2013 and has grown by leaps and bounds. Swami was visiting the Campus to perform the Bhoomi Puja for the new hostel building for the students, and He was accompained by Mr Yugumaran and Mrs Elena from Singapore, ardent devotees of Bhagawan and strong supporters of His mission of education and health. Swami landed in Mandya, a little after 10 a.m in the morning and was received by the Chairman Sri G B Rajasekhar, Sri Anantha Murthy, Ex-Chairman of the Campus, his wife Smt Chaya Murthy and all the staff and students. Amidst Vedic chants, Swami alighted from the helicopter, got into the car and was driven straight to the Sarva Dharma shaped school building of Sri Sathya Sai Sharadaniketanam and into the heart of it, Sai Hridayam, where His room is situated. The magnificent circular hall with a large dome with symbols of various religions is indeed a sight for the Gods to see! Swami went upstairs to His room and showed it to all the devotees who had accompanied Him with great pride, that His children of Mandya were taking great pains to look after His comforts in His residence, Sai Hridayam. He also talked to them about His future plan of the hostel and the various things that He would be initiating in the Mandya campus. After some refreshments and snacks, the devotees assembled behind the school building, at the site for the new hostel. The Bhoomi Puja was performed after which Swami turned around, looked at the name board and asked, "What is the name of the hostel building?" Nobody was sure of what to say. Swami on His own announced "To honour the services of Mrs Chaya Murthy, wife of the first Chairman Sri Anantha Murthy who had come to Mandya right from its inception and served as 'Guru Mata'.... Many devotees, students, alumni and parents had gathered to see Swami descend from the sky by the helicopter and received Him with great excitement. The newly built basketball court served as the helipad. Swami's helicopter descended and He got in to the car, and drove to the campus. Swami was received by the chants of Poorna Kumbham by students of Grade 6 and 7 who walked into the newly constructed block by the side of the existing blocks, which Swami inaugurated very lovingly along with devotees from the other countries. He admired the quality of construction, the spaces, the ventilation and the overall look and feel of the place and appreciated everyone for that. Swami also went to the toilet complex and inaugurated the solar hot water system, by opening the tap. He carefully looked into every detail and explained to the devotees why things were done the way they were done. Finally, He came back to His room, which was specially done for Him in the existing hostel building. After some refreshments Swami came to the main Bhajan Hall where all the students and devotees were seated. He walked amongst the devotees, blessed them, received their prayers, guided them, consoled them and finally ascended the dais to begin the morning programme, a little around noon. Swami blessed many children with gifts and His grace as a signature on their notebooks, cards, drawings, sketches and paintings. The children offered many postcard size photographs of Swami, so they could keep it with them as an insignia after His signature, and thereafter Swami blessed the kitchen team with clothes and all the staff who had gathered there with gifts of love. He blessed the devotees as well, and then finally as He proceeded towards the helicopter to the outside of the Bhajan Hall, it was a tearful farewell. The children started sobbing, asking Swami to stay back. But Swami kept assuring them that He would be back very soon, as He had other children also in Jayapura to meet. The children of Hassan are so pure and innocently adamant, that they demanded Swami to stay back with them and the Jayapura children could be called to Hassan if they had to meet Swami! Swami laughed at their innocence and at the same time consoled them by telling them that He would be back soon, and He would meet them soon in Muddenahalli for Sports Meet in January. The children were still inconsolable and Swami found a knack of distracting them from this thought by telling them "Go go, the helicopter is about to start, go quickly stand there and watch the helicopter take off!" The innocent children were kind of tricked by Swami in this way and they ran to the helicopter forgetting...
