ESWARAMMA DAY 2011 IN PUTTAPARTHI

Just two days ago, Sri.Srinivasan, one of the Trustees of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, informed every one in Sai Kulwanth hall(amidst appluase) that all the activities started by the divine command will continue more vigorously and without any limitations. Those words of confidence ofcourse when clubbed with Swami's grace, was visible as Eswaramma day 2011 which was a grand success. Words are not enough to describe the grandeour and discipline of today's programme which was completely done by the Sri Sathya Sai Trust members, for the first time, even though they didn't have Swami's physical guidance as they used have over the years.

Many say Swami is very much in Parthi, some say, He is omnipresent, Some others say He is back in Vaikunta with all the Gods and Goddesses who missed Him for 85 (read as 96) years, where ever He is now, I am sure Swami who watched this morning programme would be immensely happy with the performance of His chosen Instruments and also the kind of discipline the devotees exhibited.

This was the day, 38 years ago, the Mother of the Divine, Mother Eswaramma, left her physical body in the year 1972. Mother Eswaramma The chosen one, whom Swami loves from the bottom of His heart, on every occasion, like a child, He used to recollect the fond memories and the quality time He spend with His beloved mother and the kind of personality she was, an ideal one for all the mothers, the role model to all the women.

Since the year 2008, Swami out of His immense love and respect to His physical Mother, was celebrating Eswaramma day in Puttaparthi by visiting His parent's samadhi on this particular day. It was a great moment for Swami's immediate family members to reunite and also have close darshan of their FAMILY HEAD, our beloved Lord.

By celebrating Eswaramma day, Swami also was sending a strong message to the world, as how important is a MOTHER in our lives how well she should be respected. For the past three consecutive years, Swami was physically present for Mother Eswaramma day in Parthi but this year and the years to follow will be very different.

It was announced yesterday that a Maha Narayana Seva would be conducted in Sri Sathya Sai Hill View stadium and the same was announced in each and every village of all the three Mandals surrounding Puttaparthi. The same message was conveyed to people through local RVJ cable TV also. Understandably, there was a huge turn out of devotees for this maiden Eswaramma day which was first of its kind.

All the devotees started lining up to get into the hill view stadium from 5am on wards. Exactly at 7am, as announced earlier, every one were let in one by one, there were very few sevadals and few hundreds of police men but there was no pushing or pulling what so ever. Inside the stadium, a picture of Swami and Mother Eswaramma was placed on the dais with a nice caption Manava Seva, Madhava Seva (service to Man is service ot God) written in telugu on the dais. the ground was divided into small sections with square barricades and every one were asked to sit on the grass facing each other with a path left inbetween for sevadals to serve.

By 9am the whole stadium was full. As there was no announcement or bhajans sung till then, it was so nice to see poor villagers, forming small groups and singing bhajans. Those bhajans are very identical to Prasanthi Bhajans, (not bilittling the students) but when the villagers sang, it sounded very different and nice Probably because of the kind of innocence with which these bhajans are sung.

Even though the sun was getting hotter and hotter, the bhajans were like a cool breeze which didn't divert any one's attention to the sun. few minutes after 9am, instrumental music was played and after about 20 minutes the students started the bhajans.

The clothes to be distributed and also the food was brought in loads of tractors and exactly at 9.30 am brahmarpanam prayer was offered and Tamarind rice along with laddu was served to one and all. Men got a cotton Dhoti and Women got saree each. there was no commotion, no chaos and the sevadal brothers, came for the second time asking if we needed more food and there were few more villagers who had brought plastic bags and sevadals were kind enough to fill even the bags for take away. Swami would have been very very happy at this noble gesture, as the village fraternity was close to His heart.. He Himself being brought up in a similar environment knows the pain and hardships of these villagers and to provide a day's meal for a poor family is a great blessing.

Even in the holy scriptures, it is said, ANNA DANAM (providing food) is one of the best and unique seva because only in this kind of seva, the receiver says ENOUGH at one stage which makes this ANNA DANAM a unique one, among all other types of seva.

After the Anna Danam and Vastra Danam ( clothes distribution), every one left the stadium in the same disciplined fashion as they entered. I should think atleast 50,000 women and about 40,000 men would have been blessed with today's prasad which is definitely not a small number. I should say,, this programme was very similar to Swami's Grama Seva which is done during Dasara, be it the number of receipients and also the expenditure.

Wow it was a fantastic day and all praises to the sevadal brothers, the management and ofcourse all the devotees for a collective effort.

This evening session will have some talks by devotees and a musical concert by Malladi brothers, who were very fortunate to perform on various occassions including 83 and 84th birthday celebrations.
